Our Staff

Each of the staff members at Great Beginning Early Learning Center share a love and understanding of young children. All the teachers have CPR and First Aid training. Every employee either has a degree in a field related to Child Development or is currently working on one.

Andrea ScottOwner/Director

Andrea has been working with children in a professional care setting since 1995. In 1997 she received her Bachelor Degree in Psychology and Sociology from the University of California, Santa Cruz. The year after she graduated she opened Great Beginnings from her home in Pacific Grove. She was issued a Site Supervisor Permit from the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing in 2002. Andrea is a member of the National Association for the Education of Young Children, and the Lend-a-Hand Network through Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula.

In May of 2007, after almost 9 years, Andrea closed her Family Childcare Business and opened Great Beginnings Early Learning Center. Andrea is passionate about the care and education of young children, and believes that all children have the right to be educated in an environment where they are honored and respected for their individual characteristics and stages of development.
Elvia ZamoraTeacher/Assistant Director

Elvia was born in Watsonville, California and lived in Mexico for six years before moving back to California. She now lives in Monterey with her husband and two sons.

Elvia graduated from California State University Monterey Bay with a Bachelor Degree in Liberal Studies and a Bilingual Credential. She has taught kindergarten, first grade and second grade for the Gilroy Unified School District. For the past 6 years she has worked in preschools in a variety of roles. Elvia has worked as a Preschool Teacher, an Infant Teacher and a Preschool Director before she joined Great Beginnings in July of 2007.

Dina Lozoya Lead Teacher

Dina joined Great Beginnings Early Learning Center in March of 2008. She was born and raised in Guadalajara, Mexico and moved to California with her family in 1997. Dina is currently a student at California State University, Monterey Bay and will be graduating in December of 2010 with her Bachelor Degree in Social and Behavioral Sciences.

Dina has been working in the field of early childhood education for the last two years. Prior to joining Great Beginnings, Dina worked as the Lead Teacher in the Toddler Class at another preschool. She was drawn to this wonderful area of education because of her interest in child psychology. Her future plans are to continue her education and become a Child Psychologist. The Reggio Emilia Approach has inspired her to develop and maintain an environment for positive learning experiences which will encourage children to grow socially, emotionally, physically and cognitively.
